The 10 Square Design Competition entries have now been posted to the competition’s blog. Juried finalists will be announced (via the Shelter Blog) Tuesday, October 19th. Voting for the “people’s choice” entry will run from October 12th through October 26th (5 pm PST) and will be announced as soon as possible after the voting ends.
This design competition is running in conjunction with Shelter: How We Live, a museum exhibit at the Touchstones Nelson Museum of Art and History in Nelson, BC. The challenge was to design a habitable structure with a maximum footprint of 10m2 (approximately 107 square feet).
There are 39 entries and six randomly selected samples below. Be sure to visit their blog and cast your vote!
These are some amazing designs, thanks for your notice! Though I believe I won’t be able to leave that site and do anything else for the next few hours…
Thanks Michael. You have inspired me over the years to now design my own tiny house. With my team at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, we put into the contest The Beetle House (#35). The design calls for a house completely built from pine trees damaged by the pine beetle. Millions of trees in western Canada were destroyed by this pest insect, and I believe that using this certified construction material in a sustainable way – including building tiny houses – is the right way to go.
Love your design MIchael. It has my vote!
Thanks for your support Michael. The Beetle House (#35) is a labor of love, and it has some incredibly stiff competition. It’s inspiring to see the work of so many incredible people, and all of the houses in the competition would make excellent tiny houses.
We plan on building the Beetle House on campus and using it as a showcase of sustainable housing. We’ll then raffle it off for a fundraiser through the United Way.
