According to their website, “Mississippi River State Park provides quality access to the St. Francis National Forest and offers visitors endless adventures where the Mississippi River, Crowley’s Ridge and the Arkansas Delta meet.

Visitors can explore everything from hardwood forests to the sandy shores of the Mississippi River while enjoying three lakes, the All American Great River Road and Crowley’s Ridge Parkway (Both are National Scenic Byways), four hiking trails and two recreational areas.

This park has an on-site massage therapist who helps weary travelers unwind after a long day of driving. There are also nice level sites and shade trees. The sites are big-rig friendly.

Located on 1,138 acres right in the City of Memphis, this park is an urban oasis to anyone who wants to stay directly in the heart of Memphis and close to everything there is to do.

What makes this park unique?

This is the only  State Park within Memphis city limits that allows for RV stay. This park has some really cool history: “T.O. Fuller State Park was the first state park open for African Americans east of the Mississippi River.

A Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) camp in the area initiated construction of the park facilities in 1938. It was designated Shelby County Negro State Park in 1938 and was later changed to T.O. Fuller State Park in 1942 in honor of Dr. Thomas O. Fuller, a prominent African-American educator, pastor, politician, civic leader and author, who spent his life empowering and educating African Americans. Dr.

Fuller served as principal of the Howe Institute, a precursor to Lemoyne-Owen College, for 27 years.”

TIPS TO GET TO MEMPHIS

Memphis is a hub of several Interstate highways: when traveling from the Southwest from Little Rock, Arkansas or Pine Bluff, Arkansas, one can take the I-40 or the US-79. Coming from the South from the Jackson, Mississippi area, the I-55 connects the city to Memphis.

When traveling from the East (Huntsville, Alabama), the US-72 connects to Memphis. For those coming from the North, the US-55 is the way to go. The I-40 connects Nashville to Memphis.
