Logan and Tammy over at RowdyKittens found this tiny house on wheels and shared it with me and Kent over at Tiny House Blog. I don’t know much about this amazing little bike camper but it sure is inspiring… in an alternative housing kind of way. The photo was snapped by Kevin Cyr, an artist who like many of us appreciates the unusual. Here’s a quote from his website:
“In a culture in which people are easily lured by the appeal of status-enhancing symbols, I find beauty in derelict cars and unkempt landscapes. I have always been interested in painting vehicles and scenes that have defined the evolution of the American landscape.”
I suspect this little house is a bit on the heavy side but it is evidence that bike mounted tiny houses are not entirely crazy or impossible. Be sure to take look at Kevin Cyr’s art and other unusual mobile findings.
Christmas crackers Michael you sure find them, once Winnebago get hold of this they’ll be everywhere especially in the recession. Great find!
That has to have been photoshopped. No one could fit through so narrow a door!
You know Grant… I’m starting to think the same thing. I’ll check with the artist. If it is… he did an amazing job. Notice all the shadows.
Did you notice that in almost every photo of this individual there are people gawking in the background. π
It reminds me of the philosophical observations of Mohandas Gandhi and RenΓ© Descartes which noted that you can’t change the world, but you can change yourself and if you are lucky, others will notice and follow your example. π
Cheers, L
About Grants comment, I agree that one of us average americans probably couldn’t fit through that door. But if you look at the people, camper, and background in the pic you’ll notice that they are not americans and any one of them would be able to fit in that door. Maybe if more of us would get off our asses and use pedal power we could fit through a door that size too. π
LOL… yeah I’m certain I’d be a squeeze π
Love the irony too… biking more would lead to narrower doors.
Thanks Tim.
Michael,
You have to check out this guys bicycle camper. A really interesting setup.

I just did something similar last week, the difference in mine is that the bike is inside the camper, and the manufacture is much much lower…

I really-really want to build this and would pay a handsome sum if I could get ahold of the plans. Can someone please come up with a plan for one of these?
The folks in the PRC, especially rural areas, are amazingly creative in their search for useful solutions. I have seen them use two-wheel gas powered heavy-duty roto-tillers with a trailer hitch and metal farm tractor seat attached to pull flatbed trailers. The trailers are used to haul people, carry enormous loads of building materials, re-cycle junk, produce, fuel, and 6-8 huge slaughtered pigs.
The human-powered 3-wheel bike used in this example is another popular transport mode, especially for folks who have not yet saved enough money to buy the Mao-era roto-tiller. Note how basic the bike frame is. Sort of ugly, but it is good for 100 years and you can fix it with a wrench, hammer, and maybe a screwdriver.
The end unit with the attached camper is not photo-shopped. Rather – It looks like a typical design school studio assignment. Note the high quality photo-studio shots and the great drawing of the design. The designer also expects the user to have common sense and go through the door sideways – a small inconvenience to make the space work better.
