I think this might be the anti-cubicle. It’s a backyard home office workspace called the archipod. It sure looks cool but it just seems really really weird when you stop to look at the combination of details. The first thing, after the spaceship hatch, that I noticed didn’t seem right were the shingles that cover the ball body of the thing. On the outside it kind of screams – I’m a rustic wood spaceship… and on the inside it’s all spaceship antiseptic white. Don’t get me wrong… I like it a lot… it’s just really weird.

I love this! Even if it is weird, the interior looks like one of those trendy design firms where everyone wears all black and square glasses.
From a design standpoint, I can’t imagine trying to make that door, to match the curve and take into account swelling or shrinking of the wood would be very difficult. The siding must have been a bear to do as well! Despite these hurtles they did a great job and integrated it with the landscape so well, it’s gorgeous!

This design sort of reminds me of the “Eco Hab” out of England. The Eco Hab is a brilliant 4m. dia. house that uses this small home space very wisely – too bad it is built over there. You could have one shipped here but that would add to the cost.
It’s an interesting and fun design but I agree with Ryan, that door and the ‘all roof’ exterior is going to be a source of trouble for its entire life. Buckminster Fuller is probably rolling in his grave as I say this, but round and geodesic, in my opinion, have been pretty much discounted as practical designs for longevity, even if they are technically ‘efficient’. That’s why you don’t see very many of them and that’s why when you do, we think they are interesting!
On his site, he claims the use of fibreglass insulation as being green because it is from recycled glass. That’s a stretch, it takes a huge amount of energy to produce. Wool batts would be much greener
