My friend Jared Braiterman has been in Japan for many months now and blogging about his adventures at Tokyo Green Space. Here’s what his blog says about his project:
Tokyo Green Space examines the potential for micro-green spaces to transform the world’s largest city into an urban forest that supports bio-diversity, the environment, and human community.
He recently stumbled across this wonderful Treehouse Hideaway cafe in Harajuku. It was built by Kobayashi Takashi who has created many treehouses across Japan. This particular treehouse is built around a sturdy pine tree and is the home of a small cafe. It also appears that there is a bit of a treehouse movement going on in Japan. Take a look at the website of the Treehouse People.
Visit Tokyo Green Space to learn more about the Treehouse Hideaway cafe. Great find Jared!
My son just visited an amazing set of treehouses in Laos http://www.gibbonx.org/gibbon_project.php These things have running water, toilet and shower and people travel on ziplines between them and around the area. There are tons of amazing videos on you tube showing them.
Hello
Im from Australia, but recently i lived in Japan for 13 months and i spent about 6 of those in Tokyo!
I hanged out in Harajuku alot and i spent many hours drinking tea and drawing in this harajuku cafe. about 20 meters from this cafe is, DESIGN FESTA GALLERY which is also really inspiring! i highly recommend checking out harajuku and its many tiny buildings, houses and shops tucked away in nooks and crannies…. Actually …Tiny buildings can be found all over japan!
Cheers
Paul
Thanks Paul. Yeah I think ‘tiny’ is actually the global norm – and that the McMansion is abnormal. 🙂
