Treehugger founder Graham Hill is downsizing to a 420 square foot apartment which will be renovated in 2011. But Graham wants to pack a lot of versatility and function into the small space so created LifeEdited, a design competition intended to surface the best design from the global community of practiced and aspiring tiny house designers.
The winning design will be selected by the wider online community and the LifeEdited jury. If Graham loves it he’ll built and live in it. Here are the core requirements for the 420 square foot design:
- A sit-down dinner for 12
- A comfortable lounging option for 8 people
- Space for 2 guests with some visual and ideally auditory privacy
- A home office
- A work area with space for a rolling tool chest
- A hideable kitchen
The total value of prizes will total $70,000. The Jury Award alone will be $10,000 (plus goodies), and the First Place Community Prize will be $5,000 (plus goodies).
If you’d like to try your hand at designing Graham’s apartment be sure to visit LifeEdited and read the design brief.
The competition entry deadline is January 10, 2011 but they will be using crowdsourcing to encourage feedback from the general public. So it pays to post your early ideas right away to help move your design in the right direction.
